Diving the Pacific: Volume 1: Micronesia and the Western Pacific Islands
Published in Paperback by Tuttle Publishing (01 July, 2001)
Author: David Leonard
Average review score:

the best dive book ever
I don't know that I've ever read a better dive book or travel guide. The author covers every minute detail, and somehow, it still reads well--a fascinating and well-treated subject. David Leonard shows great wit and a solid knowledge of his subject.

The photographs are amazing, too.

Dolphin Watch (Dinotopia, 15)
Published in Paperback by Random House Childrens Pub (26 March, 2002)
Author: John Vornholt
Average review score:

Diving with dinos
Another fine Dinotopia story. This time we are treated to an undersea adventure complete with intelligent plesiosaurs. Gurney's world of people living with dinosaurs gets better with each telling.

My son loves these books, although he is starting to read at a higher level and has expanded to include the books of the Dinosaur Wars series. These are adventures with a harder edge than Dinotopia, but still suitable for teens.

Eagle Island
I Loved it. A great deal of research went into this story. This book is very real and a must read by all. It is well written and thorough as if watching movie, hard to put down. The characters, places, events and overall story is so believable. A scary senario. This would make a great movie.

Easter Island: The Mystery Solved
Published in Hardcover by Random House (December, 1989)
Author: Thor Heyerdahl
Average review score:

This book is fantastic!
This book, published in 1989, is a distillation of Thor Heyerdahl's research on Easter Island. It traces the history of Easter Island's interaction with the outside world, from Roggeveen's visit in 1722 up to the time of the book's writing. Along the way, Mr. Heyerdahl builds his case that two peoples, one from South America and one from Polynesia populated Easter Island.

This book is fantastic! I am not entirely convinced of Mr. Heyerdahl's case, but found his case compelling nonetheless. The book itself has many color pictures and maps, and is visually quite stunning. Now, not all of the book is about Mr. Heyerdahl's proposed history, so if you are merely interested in Easter Island, then you will still enjoy this book. This is a great book, one that you should read!

Easy Cooking: The Island Way
Published in Paperback by Booklines Hawaii, Ltd. (June, 1982)
Author: Ann K. Corum
Average review score:

fun little cookbook
Ann Corum's "Easy Cooking:The Island Way" is a great cookbook, easy to read, with fun-to-try recipes and a generous dollop of common sense for beginning cooks. The Hawaiian-themed dishes are unusual, tasty, and quick. Yes, there are some Spam recipes (Corum has written Spam cookbooks too, since it is a mainstay of the Islands) so if you are prejudiced against the canned pork product, just skip those.

I first purchased this book on the Big Island in the summer of 1990. When my oldest daughter got her first apartment at college, I let her take it since it's a wonderful source of advice for kids new to the kitchen. Somehow it got lost over the intervening years so I was as pleased as Hawaiian punch to find it in Amazon z-shops, even though it's out of print.

Corum is a librarian in Hawaii who has published several other cookbooks. "Easy Cooking:The Island Way" is a good way to try out some of her recipes and to enjoy her easy Island style. Highly recommended!
